Our Story

The deweys pizza Story

It all began in 1999 when founder Dewey Couch opened a small pizza shop on West 5th Avenue in Columbus, Ohio with a simple mission: serve the freshest, most creative pizza in the city. Armed with family recipes, locally sourced ingredients, and an unwavering commitment to quality, deweys pizza quickly earned a loyal following.

What set Dewey's apart from day one was the refusal to cut corners. Hand-stretched dough made fresh every morning. Sauce from whole-peeled tomatoes. Toppings from local farms and artisan suppliers. Every pizza that leaves our kitchen is a reflection of that original promise — flavor first, always.

Twenty-five years of pizza perfection — here are the milestones that made us who we are.

1999

The First Slice

Dewey Couch opens the original Dewey's pizza on W 5th Ave, Columbus. On the very first night, a line stretches out the door. Word spreads fast: something special has arrived.

2003

Columbus Magazine's Best Pizza

Just four years in, deweys pizza is named "Best Pizza in Columbus" by Columbus Monthly. The award validates our obsession with fresh dough and quality toppings.

2007

The Catering Program Launches

After countless requests from loyal fans, Dewey's launches a full catering operation. Corporate events, weddings, and block parties across Central Ohio get the dewey's treatment.

2012

Second Location Opens

Demand drives expansion. A second Dewey's location opens in Clintonville, bringing handcrafted pizza to a new Columbus neighborhood while preserving our indie roots.

2018

Online Ordering Goes Live

Dewey's launches its online ordering platform, making it easier than ever for Columbus pizza lovers to get their favorite pies delivered hot and fresh to their door.

2024

25 Years & Still Slicing

Dewey's pizza celebrates its 25th anniversary with a sold-out anniversary dinner, a limited-edition menu, and renewed commitment to being Columbus's most loved independent pizzeria for the next 25 years.
